Setting
1- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) spat on the leg of ‘Amr ibn Mu‘ādh when his leg was cut off, so he was healed
2- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) wiped my face with his hand and supplicated for me. He lived for one hundred and twenty years and only had a few little grey hairs on his head
3- Yazīd ibn al-Aswad performed the Fajr prayer with the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him). He said: (After the prayer) the people got up hurriedly and took the Prophet’s hand and rubbed their faces with it. I too took his hand and rubbed my face with it. It was cooler than ice and smelled better than musk
4- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) once came to our house and had a siesta. While sleeping, there was perspiration upon his body. My mother brought a bottle and kept collecting the sweat in it.
5- O Messenger of Allah, my nephew is ailing. So he wiped over my head and invoked blessings upon me. Then he performed ablution and I drank from the water of his ablution. After that, I stood behind his back and looked at the seal of prophet-hood between his two shoulder blades, and it resembled the egg of a pigeon
6- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) once said to me: "Get near to me," and I did
7- Did the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ask forgiveness for you? He said: Yes, and for you, and he then recited this verse: {...ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women...} [Sūrat Muhammad: 19]
8- I have been intimidated in the path of Allah at a time when no one else was intimidated, and I have been harmed for the sake of Allah at a time when no one else was harmed, and I once spent thirty days and nights wherein I and Bilāl had nothing a living being can eat except a little that was kept under Bilāl's armpit
9- A woman with some sort of mental disorder said: O Messenger of Allah, I need your help in a certain matter. He said: O Mother of so-and-so, choose which road you would like (to meet me on) so that I may give you the help you need
10- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj on an old saddle, covered by a sheet worth four dirhams or less. Then he said: O Allah, grant me a Hajj in which no showing off is intended nor reputation sought
11- I do not covet someone to have an easy death, after seeing the difficult death of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)
12- When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) died, the people said: Where is he to be buried?" Abu Bakr said: In the place where he died
13- Abu Bakr entered upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) after his death. He put his mouth between his eyes, put his hands on his temples, and said: O my Prophet, O my close friend, O my bosom friend
14- On the day the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered Madīnah, everything therein became illuminated. Then on the day he passed away, everything therein became dark
15- My heirs should not take a dinar or dirham. Whatever I leave behind, excluding the provision for my wives and my employees, should be spent in charity
16- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) left no dinar, dirham, sheep, or camels, and he did not bequeath anything
17- No prophet dies until he is shown his place in Paradise and is then given the choice. When he was sick, while his head was resting on my thigh, he fell unconscious. Then he came back to consciousness and fixed his eyes on the ceiling of the house and said: O Allah, the highest Companion
18- I asked ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr about the worst thing the polytheists did to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I saw ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt coming to the Prophet while he was praying. ‘Uqbah wrapped his garment around the Prophet's neck and strangled him therewith severely
19- O Allah, I do love him. So love him and love whoever loves him
20- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) did not take a second wife until Khadījah died
21- O ‘Ā'ish, this is Jibrīl greeting you with peace. I said: May Allah's peace, mercy, and blessings be upon him. You see what I cannot see
22- Many men attained perfection, but of women none attained perfection except Āsiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam, the daughter of ‘Imrān. Indeed, the superiority of ‘Ā'ishah to other women is like the superiority of Tharīd to other meals
23- I know it when you are pleased with me or angry with me
24- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would give up a deed, even though he liked to perform it, for fear that people would follow him and perform it, and it would thus become obligatory for them
25- I went to ‘Ā’ishah and asked her to describe to me the Messenger's illness. ‘Ā’ishah said: Yes. The Prophet became seriously ill and asked whether the people had prayed. We replied: No, O Messenger of Allah! They are waiting for you
26- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) held a wedding dinner for his marriage to one of his wives with two Mudds of barley
27- Indeed, you are not inferior in the sight of your family. If you wish, I can stay seven (nights) with you, but if I stay seven with you, I will also stay seven with my (other) wives
28- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) liked sweets and honey, and whenever he finished the ‘Asr prayer, he would visit his wives and stay closely with them, one after another. He once visited Hafsah and remained with her for longer than usual
29- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to ask in his final illness: Where will I be tomorrow? Where will I be tomorrow? He was looking forward to ‘Ā'ishah's turn [to stay with her]. So, his wives allowed him to stay wherever he wished
30- Whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go on a journey, he would cast lots among his wives and would take the one on whom the lot fell
31- ‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I will be the first to kneel before the Most-Merciful on the Day of Resurrection for the dispute
32- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent a detachment to Najd, and Ibn ‘Umar went with the troops.
33- I was presented to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of Uhud. I was fourteen years old, and so he did not grant me permission (to join the fight).
34- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah from Kadā', from the upper mountain pass which is in Al-Bat-hā', and exited from the lower mountain pass.
35- When the revenues of Bahrain arrive, I shall give you this much and this much and this much
36- I could not disclose the secret of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Had the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) not proposed to her, I would have accepted (to marry) her
37- O Messenger of Allah, I could not offer the ‘Asr prayer till the sun had set. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! I have not yet prayed it either. So we went to But-hān, and he performed ablution and so did we, and then he offered the ‘Asr prayer after the sun had set and then followed it with the Maghrib prayer
38- When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the battle of Tabūk, the people went out to receive him. I received him with the boys at Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘.
39- We set out with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on a military campaign. We were six men and had one camel with us which we would take turns riding it. So our feet were injured (from the long walk) and my feet were injured
40- O Sa‘d ibn Mu‘ādh, the Paradise, by the Lord of the Ka‘bah, I smell the fragrance of Paradise near Mount Uhud
41- If I lived until I finished eating these dates of mine, it would be a long life indeed. So he threw away the dates he had then fought them until he was killed
42- I prayed one night with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and he prolonged the standing for so long that I was I about to do something bad. It was asked: “What were you about to do?” He said: “I was about to sit down and leave him (standing).”
43- If you have any water that has remained this night in a skin (we would like it), otherwise we would drink directly (from a water source)
44- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah in the Year of the Conquest wearing a helmet on his head. When he took it off, a man came to him and said: Ibn Khatal is hanging on to the drapes of the Ka‘bah, so he (the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kill him
45- Verily, Allah has made me a noble slave, not an obstinate tyrant
46- During the battle of Tabūk, the people suffered famine, so they said: O Messenger of Allah, grant us permission to slaughter our camels to eat and use their fat. The Messenger said: You may do that
47- The Messenger of Allah dispatched a secret troop of ten men under the leadership of ‘Āsim ibn Thābit al-Ansāri
48- O Allah, forgive me, bestow Your mercy on me, and join me with the exalted companions
49- A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) with a woven mantle
50- They left me no alternative but that they either beg of me importunately or regard me as a miser, and I am not a miser
51- While we were digging the trench, a very hard boulder became exposed. The Companions went to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it, and he said: I will go (see it)
52- We went out along with the children to meet the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) at Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘
53- The angels continue to shade him with their wings
54- Story of ‘Amr ibn ‘Abasah's conversion to Islam and how the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) taught him prayer and ablution
55- This Bedouin took out my sword while I was sleeping and when I woke up, I found the unsheathed sword in his hand and he challenged me saying: Who will save you from me? I said thrice: Allah
56- I witnessed the Day of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Sufyān ibn al-Hārith ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib and I stuck with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and we did not leave him. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was riding on his white mule
57- During the Prophet's lifetime, the moon split into two halves. The mountain covered one half, and the other half was above the mountain. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah, bear witness to this
58- Fear Allah and keep your wife
59- Once we traveled with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). We set out traveling at night until the last part of it. Hence, we (halted at a place) and slept (deeply). There is nothing sweeter than sleep for a traveler in the last part of the night. It was only the heat of the sun that woke us up. The first to wake up was so and so, then so and so, then so and so, and then ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb
60- When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the battle of the Trench and put down his arms and took a bath, Jibrīl (peace be upon him) came and said (to him): You had put down your arms? By Allah, we (i.e. the angels) have not put them down yet. So, set out for them
61- It is as if I am looking at the dust rising in the alleyway of Banu Ghanm from the marching of Jibrīl's parade when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) set out to Banu Qurayzhah
62- If he had come near me, the angels would have torn him to pieces
63- By the One in Whose hand my soul is, whenever the devil sees you walking on a path, he follows a path other than yours
64- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in Makkah for ten years and then in Madīnah for ten years, and the Qur’an was descending upon him (in both)
65- O you assembly of the Ansār! They said: Here we are at your service, Messenger of Allah. He said: You were saying that ‘Love for his city and people has overpowered this man.' They said: So it was. He said: No, never. I am a slave of Allah and His Messenger. I migrated to Allah and to you. I will live with you and I will die with you
66- Sa‘d was injured on the Day of the Trench by the arrow of man from Quraysh
67- We fought with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in Hunayn. When we encountered the enemy, I advanced and ascended a mountain pass. A man from the enemy turned towards me and I shot him with an arrow. He hid himself from me. I did not know what he did
68- I never had sore eyes nor a headache since the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wiped my face and spat in my eyes on the Day of Khaybar when he gave me the standard
69- I was with Qatādah ibn Milhān when he was in the throes of death. A man passed in a distant place in the house, so I saw him in the face of Qatādah. Whenever I saw him [in the past], his face as if had oil on it
70- When he washed the body of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) he looked for what is usually found on the dead person’s body (i.e. dirt), but found nothing. Therefore, He said: May my father be sacrificed for you, you are pure alive and dead
71- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) visited me during my illness, riding neither a mule nor a horse
72- Yūsuf ibn ‘Abdullāh ibn Salām (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) named me Yūsuf and seated me on his lap
73- I never felt jealous of any of the Prophet's wives except for Khadījah although I did not see her. She further added that whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) slaughters a sheep, he says: Send some of it to the companions of Khadījah
74- Verily, Ibrahīm is my son and he died as a suckling infant, and, verily, he has two wet nurses in Paradise completing his suckling period
75- When Ibrahīm died, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is a wet nurse for him in Paradise
76- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would approach all of his wives and then take one ritual bath
77- The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stayed for three nights between Khaybar and Madīnah when he married Safiyyah
78- We went to the battle of Khaybar along with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and got spoils there. The Messenger of Allah divided them among us and placed the rest of them with the booty
79- Did the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked forgiveness for you? He said: Yes, and for you, and he recited this verse: {And ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women} [Sūrat Muhammad: 19]
80- What is the matter with those people who said such-and-such? But indeed, I pray and sleep, I fast and break the fast, and I marry women. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah does not belong to me
81- The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was never given a choice between two things except that he would choose the easier of the two unless it were a sin. If it were a sin, he would be the farthest of people from it
82- He was neither obscene nor indecent, nor was he loud-voiced in the markets. He did not repay evil with evil; rather, he would pardon and forgive
83- The prayer and what your right hands possess
